Band 7 sample answer

The city I enjoyed most among those I have visited is Bukhara. I went there with my family three years ago during the spring holiday, and we stayed for four days in a small family-run guest house in the old town.

Bukhara feels like an open-air museum. We walked along the old streets, visited the Ark fortress, climbed the Kalyan minaret area to look at the view, and explored the trading domes where artisans sell carpets, knives and embroidered cloth. In the evenings we sat by the Lyabi-Hauz pond, drinking tea under old mulberry trees, and listening to live music.

I particularly enjoyed it because everything is close together, so you can walk everywhere without feeling rushed. The architecture is also impressive, with blue tiles and carved wooden doors, and every corner seems worth photographing. The people were welcoming too, and our host cooked traditional breakfast for us, including fresh bread and homemade jam.

The only drawback was the midday heat, so we usually rested in the afternoon. All in all, it was a relaxed and cultural trip, and I came home feeling that I understood my own country a bit better. I plan to go back in autumn when the weather is cooler. I would recommend visiting in the early morning, before the groups arrive, when the light on the old walls is golden and the streets are almost empty. I still have photos from that hour on my phone, and they are my favourite souvenirs from the whole trip.
