Museums and History: IELTS Speaking Part 1 questions and answers

Museum questions mix habits with opinions. Mention a place you know and why history matters.

Questions and sample answers

Do you like visiting museums?

Yes, when I have time. I enjoy history museums especially, because seeing real objects makes the past feel more alive than reading a book.

When did you last visit a museum?

A few months ago, I went to the history museum in my city with my friends. We spent about two hours there and learned a lot about local traditions.

Are museums popular in your country?

They are popular with tourists and school groups, but fewer local adults visit them regularly. I think better advertising could change that.

Do you think museums should be free?

Ideally yes, or at least cheap for students. Education should be accessible to everyone, but museums also need money to look after their collections.

Are you interested in history?

Quite. I like learning how people lived in the past, and it helps me understand why our society works the way it does today.

How can museums attract more young people?

By using technology, such as interactive screens and virtual tours, and by organising events like night visits and workshops.
