Questions and sample answers
Do you like your own handwriting?
It is quite neat when I take my time, but when I take notes in a hurry it becomes almost unreadable. My teachers used to say I should write more slowly, and they were right.
How often do you write by hand?
Every day, mostly in lectures and in my planner. I find that writing notes by hand helps me remember information better than typing, so I still keep paper notebooks. I think many students would benefit from doing the same.
Do you think handwriting is important?
Yes, in some situations. Exams, forms and personal letters still need it. It also develops fine motor skills in children, which is why schools should keep teaching it. Children who skip it may find precise movements harder later.
Did you learn to write beautifully at school?
In primary school we had special calligraphy lessons with a copybook. I remember practising letters for hours. It was tiring, but it taught me patience and gave me a clear writing style.
Do people write letters or cards by hand these days?
Much less than before. Most people send messages online, but handwritten cards for birthdays or weddings feel more personal, so I think they will not completely disappear. Sometimes a short handwritten note simply means more than any message.
Would you prefer to type everything?
For long essays, yes, because typing is faster and easier to edit. For brainstorming or quick notes, though, I like paper because I can draw arrows and diagrams freely. So I use both, depending on the task.
